About Us

The Sensory Playce was founded by Jen Johnson, who has twin boys, both of whom have disabilities and benefit from services such as physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Even with a good job and good private insurance, Jen realized visit limitations (in most cases 20 visits per year combined for all types of therapy) reduced the number of times the boys could participate in private therapy.

Jen also realized that even those with no limit or a high number of allowable visits often find they need more than the one day a week allotted for sensory integration. Parents of children with disabilities often find themselves investing in specialized equipment for their homes and struggling to find the right balance of sensory integration and socialization.

Jen conceived the dream of a Gym for Kids filled with the specialized equipment usually found in Physical, Speech, and Occupational Therapy rooms… a gym kids could access to supplement the private therapy they receive, working in conjunction with their therapist to provide resources on effective activities and equipment to use based on each child’s specific situation… a gym that is open and not overstimulating…. a gym where kids can work on social skills playing together and engaging in small group classes.

Welcome to The Sensory Playce. We welcome kids of all abilities (including neurotypical children). However, our specialty is providing support for those with disabilities.

Mission
