About The Sensory Playce

Welcome to The Sensory Playce. We welcome kids of all abilities (including neurotypical children). However, our specialty is providing support for those with disabilities.

The Sensory Playce is an inclusive indoor play space designed to support children’s sensory, motor, and social development through fun, hands-on play. Featuring sensory-rich equipment and open-ended activities, it provides a safe and welcoming environment for children of all abilities to explore, move, and build confidence at their own pace. Families can enjoy open play, birthday parties, and special events in a space created to encourage learning, creativity, and joyful play.

Having opened in the Fall of 2018 as the first of its kind in the Treasure Valley it is a safe place for children with and without disabilities to play and grow together.  The Sensory Playce provides access to specialized equipment often found in Occupational, Speech and Physical Therapy clinics.  The Sensory Playce is a gym kids can access to supplement the private therapy they receive, working in conjunction with their therapist to provide resources on effective activities and equipment to use based on each child’s specific situation.  The Sensory Playce is open and not overstimulating.  The Sensory Playce is a gym kids can utilize to work on social skills playing together.

Our Mission

The Sensory Playce Gym for Kids provides children with and without disabilities daily access to specialized equipment, social interaction, and learning opportunities.

All children are welcome
including those with disabilities such as:

Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders
Cerebral Palsy
Down Syndrome
Sensory Processing Disorder
Mental Health Diagnosis, including ADHD, DMDD, Bipolar, ODD, and Anxiety
Deficits in fine and gross motor skill
And many other life challenges

Children of all ages and abilities will find specialized equipment available for them with a mixture of equipment designed for children as young as 6 months, all the way to adolescent sized.

Classroom/Art Area

This room is used for private events and trainings. This space can be rented out for regular use and/or single events.

Birthday Party area

Our classroom area is included in your birthday party reservation. This room is a private area for your group and includes a full-size refrigerator and sink. (All food and drink must stay in the classroom.)

Fine Motor Skills and open play

In this area, you will find fine motor activities, weighted toys and equipment, and a toddler play section.

Multi-purpose/open gym

This room includes various specialized swings, climbing structures, imaginative play centers, steam roller, trampolines, zip lines, and a crash pit.

Quiet Room

Children who are becoming over stimulated or dysregulated will find this room offers a calming quite place with noise reduction, calm lighting, and weighted blankets.

Specialty Swings for children of all ages

Providing vestibular input, core strengthening for postural control, and increased regulation/focus

Trampolines

To assist with gross motor skills and improving strength, increased regulation through lower extremity joint compression

Climbing Wall and Climbing Structure

For complex motor planning and coordination as well as regulation through joint distraction

Steam Roller

Providing deep pressure/increased proprioception as well as assisting with motor planning, body awareness and shoulder stability.

Sensory and weighted toys

Assisting with sensory integration, auditory processing, regulation/calming, and heavy body work input.

Zip Line

Providing children with both proprioceptive and vestibular input through upper extremity joint distraction.

Crash Mat and pillows

Assisting with improved motor planning and sensory input through increased proprioceptive input.

Fine Motor and Craft Supplies

Assisting with improved fine motor and visual skills.

Imaginative play

To include things such as a grocery store, doctor’s office, puppet theater, and restaurant.
Our Story

Meet Jen Johnson - Founder, President, and CEO of The Sensory Playce

Jen Johnson is a proud single mom of twin boys, Gabriel and Kyle. Gabriel was born with a heart defect called Tricuspid Atresia and has also been diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder and ADHD. Additionally, Gabriel has difficulty with fine motor skills and struggles with sensory avoidance. Kyle has been diagnosed with several behavioral and Developmental health illnesses including Autism, Bipolar Disorder. Previous diagnosis have included ADHD, DMDD, Anxiety, and Sensory Processing Disorder.
Jen understands the struggle parents face trying to ensure their children receive all of the services they need while balancing time, energy, and budget, running between therapist, pediatric specialist, pediatricians, IEP meetings, and providing social opportunities for children.Jen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Boise State University and a Masters of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University. Additionally, Jen is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and holds the Society of Human Resources certification as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).

Prior to opening The Sensory Playce, Jen spent her professional career working in the areas of Human Resources, Marketing, Accounting, and Finance, including roles on Executive Management Teams and Boards of Directors. Jen is a 2014 Idaho Business Review Woman of The Year Honoree. Jen enjoys volunteering in the community, having volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Idaho, Ronald McDonald House, Idaho Food Bank, Rake-up Boise, as well as sitting on numerous church and non-profit boards, including serving as the 2014-2015 President and 2015-2016 Chair of the Board for the Junior League of Boise.

Jen currently serves on the Board of Directors for Idaho Parents Unlimited and is a member of the Idaho Council on Developmental Disabilities, as well as the Idaho State Department of Education Special Education Advisory Panel.Jen brings her passion for family and community, as well as a strong business background, to the development and operations of The Sensory Playce.
